Revised Equipment list for sound on location task

Location one - Outside

  • Use tie mics instead of boom mic to reduce the sound of wind and the general background noise
  • Change tape just in case the tape is the cause of the echo

Location two - Quiet inside

  • Use tie mics to make sure the audio is clearer and louder
  • Change tape for the same reason for location one

Location 3 - Busy inside

Task 1

The general mood that is conveyed with this song is sad, slow and soulful. The singer, Jazz Morley sings in a very emotional way and it's played on piano which creates a very raw feel.
As this song is about her brother going to war, it's clearly quite a sad song and the piano and emotion in her voice reflects this.

Task 4 - Filming schedule

Camera: Canon eos 550d
Actors: Jazz Morley and a male actor from an agency
Location: Forest in Norway
Props: Piano
Costume: Army clothes

Preparing to shoot on location

Why do you think it's important to make a plan before you go and shoot film or audio on location?
It's always important to plan your location filming in advance in case not everything goes according to plan. Something could easily go wrong. For example, if you're filming a weather report on location and you know it'll be rainy, then you'll need to be prepared with covers and umbrellas etc.

Sound on location

Ubicación Uno: Our first location was an outside location. When we listened back to the sound, the first things we noticed about the sound was the wind and the traffic in the background. Also, there was a strange echo with the voices. We're still unsure as to what this is. There is also quite a prominent sun flare in the corner and a shadow in the bottom right corner. There was visible equipment at the side too.

In order to make the sound and footage better, we will need to film in a more sheltered area to avoid wind and traffic sounds. We might also need to film in a more shady area to make sure there's no sun flare or shadows.
The best way to fix the echo problem is to film everything again.

Ubicación Dos: This location was a quiet empty classroom. When we listened to the sound on this clip, we discovered that the audio was quite quiet. We can fix this problem by using tie mics. Also, the echoing occurred in this clip too.

Ubicación Tres: This was a busy inside location. The first thing we noticed was the people talking in the background so it was difficult to hear the script. The echoing was still an issue in this clip but we'll just film everything again.
