Overall, I think this sound effect project went really well. Some sounds were recorded with a sony voice recorder and some I got from the internet.
I made sure I watched the clip I chose in great detail so that I knew exactly what sounds I needed. I created a mind map of the sounds I needed and I colour coded it to show which ones I'd record myself and which ones I'd get from the internet.
The first sound I needed was the sound of glasses being put down on a table. So me and two other people from my class who needed the same sound effects as me found an empty classroom and took the sony voice recorder in with us. We used a china cup and recorded it being put down onto the table. We consulted our mind maps and recorded the rest of the sounds in the empty classroom. Another one we needed was the sound of someone licking the lid of a milk bottle. We recorded each of us making the sound so we could decide which was the best one afterwards. The next sound we recorded was the sound of liquid being poured into a cup. We used the same china cup from before and recorded water being poured into it. It worked really well.
These were all the recorded sounds I needed. The rest had to be downloaded from the internet.
The first sound I needed was the sound of a bell ringing. I found this effect on Youtube and used a video converter to convert it to an mp3 file. I also downloaded the sound of tooth brushing and a popping sound.
After putting all the sound effects in the correct place, I decided that the clip definitely needed music in the background. Tom and Jerry cartoons normally have a kind of 20's swing song in the background so I search 20's music into Youtube and found a song that worked well.
I really enjoyed this assignment and overall I think it went pretty well. The sound effects fitted well with the moving images.
If I got the opportunity to do this assignment again, I would have chosen a different part of the clip. Maybe a part with more action in it.
